Look out the window.
Stand at a window or step outside and watch for any animal or bird you recognize from this word list. When you spot one, say the Peoria word for that animal or bird out loud 3 times. For example, if you spot a squirrel, say “anikwa, anikwa, anikwa “. Try it each time you notice an animal or bird.
Picture an Animal or Bird.
Close your eyes and imagine an animal or bird from the list – a deer, a turtle, a hawk. See him or her clearly in your mind. Then open your eyes and say the Peoria animal or bird word out loud 3 times, as if that animal or bird is standing right in front of you. Try it now. Imagine a frog jumping in front of you. Now say kooka out loud 3 times. If you want more practice, say the Peoria word 5 to 7 times instead.
Read the Singular Words Aloud.
Go through the singular animal and bird words on this page slowly and out loud. Pair each one with “neewaki ” – I see him, I see her (for any animal or bird). Let yourself hear the pattern over and over. The more you repeat it, the more it stays. For example: “pileewa neewaki ” – I see the turkey.
Read the Plural Words Aloud.
