Hilling the Corn Moon

The second agriculturally named month is aciikatakiilhswa ‘Hilling The Corn Moon’, named for the time when we are hilling the corn. Hilling corn is the mounding of dirt around corn stalks to help them during their growth cycle. Hilling allows nutrients to be more accessible and grows a larger, healthier root system. This helps support the corn with a better foothold during winds and rains as it grows tall. At the same time, hilling removes unwanted weeds and debris in fields and gardens.
